Success Stories - Feral FoursomeIn August 2007 we heard of a mum and four kittens that were living rough. The mother, named Candy, was very friendly and found a lovely new home within a week or so, but the kittens, who had been born outside and were not used to humans, were very scared and hissed and spat whenever they were approached. The quickest way to tame feral kittens is to split them up so that they relate to humans on a one-to-one basis, but space limitations meant we had to put them into two pairs. We also had to reunite all four together due to a carer holiday; none of them were vicious but they hissed when they felt threatened by strangers during viewings, making it difficult to find them a home. All four loved each other and other cats, so we insisted that they either went to new homes in pairs, or went to live with another cat. Slowly one by one, new homes were found with patient owners who were prepared to let them settle in, in their own time. And now aged 7 ½ months the last one has successfully been re-homed. It has been a very long haul but the pleasure in seeing them happy in permanent homes makes it all worthwhile.
