Northampton Cats Protection
Where are you ?
We don't have a base or shelter, our offices are our homes. Calls come in to the Helpline which is manned on a rota basis by telephone volunteers, again working from home. All the cats/kittens for rehoming are housed with Fosterers, sometimes in the home but also in very high spec pens in their gardens. All of our Fosterers live in or within a few miles of Northampton.
When I Call you, why do I often get the answer phone ?
The majority of our Volunteers work full time, and this includes most of the Helpline operators. Please call between the hours of 10am and 4pm from Monday to Friday, leaving a brief message if so requested. Your call will be returned as soon as possible, usually later the same day, or perhaps the following day at the latest. Please speak clearly and don’t forget to leave your number, it’s surprising how many people do!
Do you get paid for what you do ?
All Cats Protection branches are staffed entirely by volunteers, no-one is paid for the work they undertake. We give our time freely and gladly to help as many cats as we can. Because we have homes, families and jobs to juggle with in addition to our volunteering work, we cannot provide a 24 hour or emergency call out service, but we will always help if we can.
Why can't I just come along to have a look at the cats, and if I see one I like, bring it home with me ?
As mentioned above, the cats are fostered in private homes or gardens, so visits have to be arranged to fit in with busy lives, families and jobs. It would be very time consuming, to have lots of people casually “window shopping”. Also, a Home Visit is always conducted prior to adoption.
Why do I have to have a home visit ?
The Home Visitor establishes whether the people and home are suitable and advises on the type of cat that would fit in with them; depending on circumstances such as whether or not they work, have children or other pets. When the home visit has been satisfactorily completed you will then be invited to view any suitable cats in our care. Should you find just the right one for your family, subject to all Vet checks having been completed, you will be able to take him/her or them, home with you that day.
PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO BRING YOUR CAT CARRYING BASKET WITH YOU ON THE DAY!
